Meet Andrew
Andrew currently works full time as a sports reporter with The Daily News, a reputable daily in Longview, Wa. He covers prep sports with game stories, features and more while contributing photography.
Andrew is also a contributor to the newly formed Wrangler News Independent following the Independent's acquisition of Wrangler News. He provides features and insight on local sports, players and coaches in the Tempe and Chandler community.
Andrew began his journalism career with Wrangler News, a bi-weekly paper serving Tempe and West Chandler. He began writing and taking photos on a freelance basis before ultimately becoming associate publisher. He covered high school athletics, community events, community news and acted as chief of photography.
He graduated from ASU Walter Cronkite where he covered high school sports in the greater Phoenix area for AZPREPS365, interned for PHOENIX Magazine Visuals, and served as a digital sports reporter for Cronkite News Sports, a news division of Arizona PBS.
Andrew covered game stories and enterprises during his tenure at Cronkite, including his deep dive into how farming in Eloy translated to football success during the 60s. His story earned first place in sports writing for Hearst Journalism Awards in 2022.
He contributed for Varsity Xtras, providing game stories and features on East Valley high school athletics. Andrew also continued with PHOENIX Magazine on a freelance basis where he covered the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Super Bowl LVII Media events and much more.
Staying behind the lens, Andrew has worked the Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona, part of the Boras Foundation. In 2023 and 2024., he provided pregame, in-game and post-game content for the Boras socials and website.
In April of 2023, Andrew joined House of Sparky, a student-led online publication that covered Arizona State athletics. As Editor-in-Chief and co-site manager, he was responsible for editing stories, directing coverage and overseeing site operations. He prides himself on diverse sports coverage.
Whether Andrew is clicking the keyboard or camera, his creativity produces compelling stories and engaging photos.
